How HomeRepair Works

Your CA│RE Journey.

Every claim is different. The way we manage yours never is. Here’s what to expect from first contact to closing your claim.

The CA│RE

Four stages. One team. Your home restored.

CA│RE is the framework we use to manage every repair. It covers every stage of your claim from the moment we receive it to the day your repairs are complete and your claim is closed.

Where are you up to?

Tap your situation. The stages below will highlight, and the house above shows your repair coming back to life.

Browse all four stages below, or tap where you're up to.

The CA│RE

  1. 1We receive your claim from your insurer and a case specialist should contact you within 24 hours.
  2. 2We check your house is safe and immediate dangers have been addressed.
  3. 3If your home has been left unsafe (unsealed roof, unsecured property, or escaping liquid), we arrange emergency works (Make Safe) to secure it immediately.

Milestone: Your property is confirmed safe and immediate hazards addressed before assessment begins.

No preparation is needed on your part. We already have the details you gave your insurer.

Questions people ask at this point

Your insurer sends your claim to HomeRepair automatically. You'll know it's been received when our team contacts you.

Our team can arrange a Make Safe visit to secure the property and prevent further damage. During your first call we'll assess whether urgent help is needed.

  1. 1Our Assessor, and where required specialist tradespeople, visit your property to assess the damage.
  2. 2A detailed Scope of Works is prepared covering the full extent of damage, materials, and trades needed.
  3. 3If pre-repair conditions or non-conforming repair directives are identified, these are referred to your insurer before repair begins.

Scope of Works complete and submitted to your insurer for review and approval.

Most inspections take 30 minutes to 1 hour, and you can ask the assessor anything while they’re on site.

Questions people ask at this point

No major preparation needed. Please ensure the damaged area is accessible, pets are secured, and a responsible adult is home unless otherwise arranged.

Your insurer will contact you once they've reviewed the reports and Scope of Works. HomeRepair won't contact you again until repairs are approved and ready to proceed.

Your insurer reviews the Scope of Works and discusses your options with you. Depending on your claim, your options may include a full repair, a cash settlement for part of the repair, or a full cash settlement. Nothing moves forward until you and your insurer are aligned on the path ahead.

While you wait: this quiet patch is normal. Your claim is with your insurer's team, not lost. Haven't heard for a while? Call us any time on 1300 836 229 and our claims specialists can help.
This pause is the heart of CA | RE: the moment your home's path forward is agreed.
  1. 1Where required your insurer, acting as your representative, enters into a building contract with HomeRepair. Building Warranty Insurance is purchased on your behalf where required.
  2. 2Your Case Manager oversees the repair and coordinates trades. Base works, including roof and framing, come first.
  3. 3Fit-out trades follow: plumbing, electrical, carpentry and similar.
  4. 4Painting, final finishes and clean-up complete the repair. Each trade confirms completion before the next begins.

Milestone: Each trade confirms completion before the next starts.

From here, your Case Manager is your single point of contact: one person who knows your claim end to end.

Questions people ask at this point

Yes. You'll receive a plan outlining which trades will attend and when.

We pause, assess the new damage, update the Scope of Works, and notify your insurer for approval.

  1. 1Your Case Manager calls you to confirm you're satisfied with the repairs and to arrange any follow-up works.
  2. 2One of our Assessors inspects the works to confirm everything meets the Scope of Works and our quality standards.
  3. 3Any defects are resolved before we close out. Your insurer is then advised, and will also call to check you're happy.

Milestone: Customer satisfaction confirmed and insurer advised to close the claim.

We guarantee the quality of workmanship on all authorised repairs.
